First Baptist Church Jonesboro

Initially, a master plan was produced to determine long range future expansion options. The downtown site of this historic church consists of several buildings constructed over the last 100 years. With a major arterial street separating the church’s campus, it was the desire of the congregation to solve access and safety issues. The master plan calls for the construction of a new four story education building and staged renovations of several of the existing structures.

A new atrium joins the new 38,000 SF building to the existing education building and provides a naturally-lit and dramatic space for many types of gatherings. The atrium also serves as the new main entry to most of the church’s facilities, allowing access from both the front and back of the existing church campus. A new off-street entry canopy adjacent to the first floor pre-school children’s spaces provides a protective drop-off for families and older adults. Grade school classes are on the second floor with junior high and high school teenagers on the fourth floor. The third floor is shelled for future expansion.
