Lawton Correctional Facility

This addition to the existing 1800 bed Cherokee County Correctional Facility
previously designed by Cromwell in 1997, will house approximately 600 additional
inmates. The total area of new construction is 100,200 SF. New spaces include
two 300 bed, 2-story housing buildings constructed with precast concrete cell
modules. Each housing building is divided into three distinct wings each containing
inmate cells, a common area/dayroom, central showers, and classroom / multipurpose
spaces. The three wings surround a secure inmate access corridor with central
secure control room having clear site lines to all inmate cells from the central
control location. Touch screen security control panels in each housing control
room provide control of electronic door locks at all inmate cells and corridor
access points, and report electronically back to the main facility central controls
location. CCTV monitoring is provided throughout the facility.
In addition to the two inmate housing buildings, a central Activities building
is also provided which includes an inmate dining facility with servery and dishwashing,
an indoor gymnasium, commissary, classrooms, medical and dental exam and treatment
rooms and administrative offices. A secure covered inmate access corridor is
provided between the new housing units and the existing 1800 bed facility. A
paved patrol road and double perimeter security fences are provided surrounding
the new addition with microwave security detection systems between the fences.
A maintenance building with bulk food and cold storage warehouse spaces as well
as maintenance admin offices and a large meeting room is also provide as part
of this contract, located outside the secure perimeter.
