Little Rock Air Force Base
Education Center
Jacksonville, AR
The schematic design of the new Education Center is a two story building with approximately 81,500 square feet of classrooms, laboratories, offices, a library, building circulation and other support spaces. There is office space for seven satellite universities that offer a diverse curriculum to students. The building nearly doubles the current student capacity and provides space for one more college than the existing facilities. Each classroom's design can accommodate a variety of advanced educational technology. The building contains an assortment of classroom sizes and styles to meet the needs of each of the seven universities. Classroom walls are non-structural to allow easy reconfiguration as future conditions warrant. Tiered computer labs provide a clear line of sight between students and instructors, as well as allow continuous monitoring of student work by the instructor. Raised flooring throughout the facility provides maximum flexibility to incorporate future changes in technology.
