The new UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Tower expands existing outpatient services and relocates dispersed functions into one consolidated location to enhance patient convenience and improve operational efficiency. The new 12 story addition will connect to the existing Walker Tower on all levels. The addition encompasses 300,000 building gross square feet of shell with floor build out occurring in phases.
Research labs are located in the facility to enhance translational research. Lab assignments can fluctuate in open labs without moving walls. Support modules can be customized to meet the requirements of the research as tissue culture, microscopy, or special procedure rooms. Labs are supported by a central equipment corridor. All labs will meet BSL2 criteria.
Existing animal facilities in Walker Tower are being enhanced and renovated to serve research expansion. A new animal MRI has been brought on line while cage washing and animal holding facilties are in the planning stages.
Outpatient care services will be provided 6 days a week for approximately 10 to 12 hours per day and will include physician office visits, labs, imaging services, chemotherapy, and infusion. Pharmacy services are being brought to the building to provide easy access for patient prescriptions and to provide chemotherapy pharmaceuticals to patient infusion floors.
Existing MRI facilities will be accessed from the new entry lobby. Conditioned skyway bridges will link the new building’s atrium to rest of the teaching hospital campus: PET, outpatient clinics, hospital, radiation therapy, etc.

Level 3 - Procedure and Treatment Center
Level 4 - Infusion & Bone Marrow Transplants
Level 5 - Pharmacy, Cytology, Mechanical / Electrical rooms
Level 6 - Clinic
