Camp Carlson was designed around maintaining existing grades and mature trees. This resulted in a site that was minimally disturbed and was quickly restored to its park-like-appearance. The new cabins and RV sites were inserted into the trees to provide shade, visual separation, and an overall appearance to match the existing RV sites and cabins. The administration building was sited to make best use of an existing clearing near the highway access and angles to front it, minimizing the need for directional signage.
